For over 80 years, the Ebert family business at the corner of Soquel and Seabright Avenues was a cornerstone of the Eastside Santa Cruz community. While the business has since faded into history, Ebert’s continues to hold a special place in the hearts and minds of many Santa Cruzans. Daniel Model’s presentation will bring the Ebert’s story to life through a documentary film he created with the help of the Ebert and Eddy families. The film documents the story of Ebert’s and the Ebert family through first-hand accounts and previously unreleased family photos and home movies.
Daniel Model is an Eastside Santa Cruz resident with a passion for preserving and promoting local history. He conducts historical walking tours and assists in the creation of historical markers. His undertaking, The Eastside Oral History Project, has been a conduit for many local residents to preserve their families’ histories. Through his scholarship, Daniel helps local residents better understand and appreciate the history of Eastside Santa Cruz.

Germany & Germans in America (part 2 of 2)
In part 1, Gordon Seyffert, President of the Immigrant Genealogical Society of California, examined some of the common inquiries he encountered during his tenure at the Immigrant Society. In this second part, MrSeyffert will examine questions submitted by our attendees through the Zoom Q&A during part 1 or via the registration form (below). Registering for this presentation enables you to submit your questions. Please note: You only need to enter your question once, so if you placed your question in the registration form for part 1, you do not need to enter it again when you register here for part 2.
To register for the October presentation, go to this website, then click on the registration button on the bottom of the page:
https://santacruzpl.libcal.com/event/9429166
Once you begin entering your information on the registration form, you’ll see a field where you may freely type your question(s) about how to research your German immigrant ancestors. While we can’t guarantee Mr Seyffert will get to them all, he is certainly going to try and answer as many as he can.More about our guest presenter: Gordon Seyffert is a retired university staffer who was born in St. Louis. His ancestry is half-and-half German and British Isles. His primary interest is German genealogy, since several of his ancestors immigrated to the U.S. in the mid-nineteenth century. He is especially interested in migration, and the factors that cause people to relocate. Gordon says that he is a genealogist because he is a curious person who wants to know from whence he came. He categorizes himself as a life-long learner. He refuses to be intimidated by problems of unfamiliar language and culture. Gordon is proud to be a talented amateur who enjoys helping others. How far back has his research taken him? Far enough to explain who he is!
