HISTORICAL LOCAL NEWSPAPER INDEXING PROJECT
A-Z
INTRODUCTION
A project to index early newspapers published in Santa Cruz, California, was begun in 1982 by the Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Library. The project was turned over to the Genealogical Society of Santa Cruz County in 2005 and continues in association and co-operation with the Santa Cruz Public Library. The project started with indexing the local Santa Cruz Sentinel, then interventions of the Santa Cruz Surf and Santa Cruz Evening News for some years, then back to the the Sentinel. Now and then, hard copies of other newspapers were made available for index data entry, so these have been included as well.
Some early years of local newspaper indexes such as the Mountain Echo, Surf and Sentinel are also available on the Santa Cruz Public Library website. Microfilms of most papers are available for viewing at the Santa Cruz Public Library, Central branch. Also check the library’s website under their Local Information Newsclipping File.
The index presented here was never intended to be an all/every name/subject index. This update includes additions, deletions, and corrections added to the previous posting. It has been divided into 9 segments: A-B, C-D, E-G, H-J, K-L, M-N, O-R, S, and T-Z.
The indexes are most easily searched with a free PDF reader such as Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader. To access an index, right click on the link below and choose: “save link as” to download the index to your computer. Then open the index with the PDF reader and use the “find” command to search.
